Objectives and contents:

  • There are very few certified China Business experts around. The whole world seems to do business in or with China. Directly or indirectly and certified China Business Experts are in high demand. Those with a Shanghai Jiao Tong University “China Business” certificate on their CV often get priority for important employment appointments or intercompany promotions.
  • A highly desirable “stand alone course” for everyone who has or will have dealings, directly or indirectly, with or in China and needs to know what to expect and how to effectively deal with prevailing complex and often times baffling Chinese issues and situations.
  • A mandatory supplementary course for those who need the specialist China Business component and for those who need to demonstrate their specialized China business knowledge for inter-company promotions or new employment opportunities.
  • The Shanghai Jiao Tong University Business in China seminar was designed in 2008 and is constantly being updated. Having earned the SJTU “How to do business in China” certificate has benefited the many business executives and others who have followed the courses that were staged on the SJTU historic 1898 Campus in Shanghai Xuhui, the erstwhile French “concession” from 1849 to 1949.
  • The basic China business seminar consists of a minium of 3 modules of 6 hours each and can be followed “On Campus” in Shanghai on 3 non-consecutive Saturdays or by way of a one or two week (5 days/4 modules + factory visit) or (10 days + factory visit) on campus course or alternatively “On Line”.The “Open Book” online examination is to be taken at the conclusion of each module.
  • The China business seminar can be expanded to include any or all of the 16 available China business modules.
  • For visiting trade missions or delegations, abbreviated seminar versions can be designed, covering the essentials only.
  • The “How to do business in China” course has been designed especially for business executives and business students who need to have a thorough understanding on how to conduct business in China successfully and who need to unlearn some aspects of Western business practices and appreciate the cardinal axiom “when in Rome, do as the Romans do”.

Examinations and tests

  • The “Open Book” online examination is to be taken at the conclusion of each module.
